Eastern College and triOS College Business Technology Healthcare have announced that they will be joining the Project Hero initiative. Created by retired General Rick Hillier and Honorary Lt. Col. Kevin Reed, Project Hero was put in place to provide support to the sons and daughters of Canadian military that were killed while serving in an active mission.

Over 90 universities and colleges from coast to coast across Canada have joined in the efforts of Project Hero. Now under the guidance of Canada Company, Project Hero is expanding. Both Eastern and triOS will be providing eligible dependents with award funding to cover up to $10,000 of their first year’s tuition costs.

“Both Eastern and triOS College are proud to support the efforts of Project Hero,” said Stuart Bentley, President of triOS Corporation. “We believe in caring for the families of the men and women that have given their lives to keep our country safe.”

Eastern College’s first recipient of the Project Hero Award, Sarah Stewart, comes from a family that has made great sacrifices. In April 2007 Stewart’s father Master Cpl. Allan Stewart lost his life in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan.

With the assistance of Project Hero, Stewart will be starting the Veterinary Assistant diploma program at the Fredericton campus on September 12th.

“Canada Company applauds the commitment of Eastern College to the children of the fallen. Scholarships such as this ensure that the ‘often forgotten’ children of the fallen who have sacrificed so much, are able to fulfill their dreams of post-secondary education.” says Angela Mondou, President at Canada Company.

For those considering post-secondary education, both Eastern and triOS College urge students that are eligible to submit an application by December 31, 2016.
