Child and Youth Care Worker
Can you see yourself empowering young people to overcome their daily challenges? Child and Youth Care Support Workers are responsible for counselling children, adolescents, and their families with concerns regarding social, emotional, behavioural, and mental health issues. Your role will require high levels of compassion and professionalism as you work with other industry professionals to analyze and determine the best course of action for the well-being of children. Eastern College graduates will leave the program with a balance of theoretical study, practicums, and field placement experience to ensure they have a well-rounded foundation of skills to apply to the workplace.

Employment Opportunities in Nova Scotia:

The career ladder for graduates of the Child and Youth Care Worker program in Nova Scotia offers opportunities for both graduates who are just coming out of school with no experience as well as opportunities for those with a combination of both a diploma and work experience.  A sample of jobs that are applicable to new graduates may include:   Child and Youth Care Worker, Support Worker, Youth Care Worker, Mental Health Worker, Educational Program Assistant, Residential Counsellor, Project/Outreach Coordinator, Client Support Worker, Student Assistant, Community Justice Worker.

For those individuals who may wish to work in certain acute care positions within residential youth care facilities in Nova Scotia (approximately  4% of the jobs in the youth care system in Nova Scotia), the Department of Community Services hiring standards require that applicants have both their diploma and previous relevant experience.
