Meet Your Employment Specialist – Kaziya

April 11th, 2023

With a background in labour relations, a Master’s in Human Resource Management, and experience as an international student in Canada, Kaziya brings a unique set of skills to Eastern College as an Employment Specialist. Originally from Zambia, Kaziya initially came to Canada to pursue his Master’s degree at the University of Regina. Upon graduating, he returned to Zambia where he held a number of senior roles in the public service, most recently as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

Kaziya returned to Canada in 2021, and joined Eastern College as an Employment Specialist at the beginning of 2023. Kaziya is a knowledgeable professional with a deep understanding of how the private sector fits into education, training and how to make graduates more marketable. As an Employment Specialist he connects students with jobs and assists with career preparation. He also works in collaboration with companies in the private sector to help secure placements for students and gets feedback to ensure that students are placed in a position that uses their skill set in the most productive way.

One of the most satisfying feelings is seeing a student move into a role that matches their skill set, resulting in a fulfilling job that sets students up for long-term and successful careers.

In addition to his expertise, Kaziya is well-versed in global travel and immigration processes for various countries, especially the Southern African Development Community (SADC) with the membership of 15 countries. Drawing on his experience as a graduate student in Canada, he imparts valuable advice to students in similar situations.

One aspect of Kaziya’s role that he particularly loves is engaging with businesses and organizations like the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce. He enjoys sitting down with the CEO to discuss how Eastern College can meet the needs of employers in the Chamber and the greater Fredericton area. Kaziya’s dedication to his work and expertise makes him a valuable asset in the field of education and career placement.
