Rising Above: Career Building With a Learning Disability

November 20th, 2020

My name is Natasha Ackerson and I graduated November 2020 at the Saint John campus. Here’s my story.

I tried doing many courses online but I was just one of the people who learn better in a classroom. I decided after many years to go back to school and chose Eastern College this time. Being a mother of three kids and trying to do school was difficult but rewarding. I was diagnosed with a learning disability, and Eastern College directed me to the right area and resources to be tested.

Staff and fellow students are here to provide encouragement and on-going support.

After being diagnosed, Eastern College did whatever they could to make sure I was successful. Teachers went beyond measures to make sure I got the help that was needed. Other students in my class became like family to me and grew upon me. I always wanted to have a career that will be successful for my children and I. The school made sure my job placement fitted my needs. Upon Graduating I was offered a full-time position at Massage Addict.

Eastern College is a great way to further your education. They are a great group of people who are there for you when needed and thrive for your success. Also classes are shorter, so you still have time in the run of the day to do what needs to be done.  My life has done a complete turnaround since starting my studies at Eastern College and for that, I’m thankful! Don’t be shy and step into Eastern College and I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.
