July 28th, 2025

Eastern College is excited to announce the launch of its CHIMA-accredited online Health Information Management (HIM) diploma program. Approved by the Canadian College of Health Information Management, this new program is the third CHIMA-accredited offering under triOS Education Group and expands access to certified HIM education across Atlantic Canada.
Built on CHIMA’s 2022 standards, the 73-week online diploma gives students a faster route to certification and employment. It includes five medical coding courses and an 8-week internship, giving students relevant experience and skills in less time.
“We have been proud to support students in Health Information Management education for many years, and we are excited to build on that success with our new CHIMA-accredited program at Eastern College,” says Eastern College President Craig Donaldson. “With the expertise of our team and a strong understanding of the industry, students can be confident they are gaining the knowledge and skills employers are looking for. Students will benefit from the convenience of online learning, dedicated faculty, and extensive student support services.”
Students will develop competencies in health data management, legal foundations, classification systems, research, and decision support, along with hands-on training in WinRecs software and access to CIHI’s Canadian Coding Standards. Graduates are eligible to write the National Certification Examination (NCE) and pursue their Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) designation through CHIMA.
Program benefits include:
- 8-week internship placement in a healthcare-related setting
- Two-year Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) student membership
- One sitting of the National Certification Examination (NCE) included
- Hands-on training using WinRecs software for coding and abstracting
- Access to CIHI’s Canadian Coding Standards and national databases
Graduates will be ready for in-demand roles such as Health Information Management Technician, Clinical Data Coordinator, and Medical Records Supervisor. With Canada’s healthcare system relying more than ever on data and digital tools, this program helps students enter the workforce with purpose and confidence.
